18th Century French Fountain 24th scale

cast in resin or plaster

This highly detailed beautiful fountain is a copy of an original antique. There are minor modifications due to scale and also casting issues but overall it is close to the original.

We do not know the history of this fountain, where is came from but it was being sold on an antiques website and was too irristable not to copy.

The head at the top of the fountain has a small pipe from which water would have flowed. We have not made our pipe hollow but with a little skill you could use resin to flow from the mouth into the shell below and then tumble again from the shell into the trough. On the original there were two pipe outlets either side of the fountain. If you wished to add these then you could simply add a little pipe or jewelry finding and add the cascading water.

All the detailing on the fountain is influenced by "water". The lily pads falling from the mans beard, the seaweed fronds supporting the shell and the sea shell itself being a huge clam shell under which sits a quiet merman or merchild. He sits studying a little lily pad flower in his right hand. His scaly fishy legs end with two fish tales.

There are endless ways in which you could paint and decorate this lovely fountain. Bluey green patina where the pipe is exposed, mossy mould in the crevices. The stone could be marble or granite or limestone. Addition of plant material and water (resin based of course!) would be lovely.

There are many suppliers of realistic water - try Deluxe materials or simply google clear resins. Be mindful though that some will only allow a very shallow depth of water and others, such as PU resin, can set yellow in colour.

If you choose to purchase this delightful fountain I guarantee you will have so much fun!
